Hot dog

High FODMAP (Avoid)Wheat bun, frank with hidden onion or garlic

Is hot dog low FODMAP?

Hot dog is high FODMAP and best avoided during the elimination phase.

A hot dog stacks two fructan sources, the wheat bun and the onion or garlic that often hide inside a frank's seasoning, plus HFCS in cured franks and relish. A safer build uses a gluten-free bun with a frank verified free of onion, garlic, and HFCS, and skips onion toppings for mustard.

FODMAP subgroups to watch

Hot dog contains fructans, excess fructose that can drive SIBO symptoms.

SIBO note

Watch this one for ISO (hydrogen sulfide overproduction). Hot dog contains sulfur compounds, and ISO patterns can be more sensitive to these, especially in larger servings.
